Role pinging allows Alert Manager to notify specific members of your Discord server when a tracked creator goes live by mentioning a Discord role in the alert message. This is useful for servers where only certain members want to be notified about streams, rather than alerting everyone.

How role mentions work

When role pinging is enabled for your server, Alert Manager will include a role mention at the top of stream alerts. Members who have that role will receive a Discord notification. The alert content itself remains the same — the role mention simply draws attention to it.

Best practices for role pinging

To avoid notification spam and keep your community happy:
  • Create a dedicated opt‑in role, such as:
    • Stream Alerts
    • Live Notifications
  • Allow members to self‑assign the role
  • Avoid pinging large or mandatory roles (like @everyone)
This ensures only interested members receive alerts.

Required permissions

For role mentions to work correctly, one of the following must be true:
  • The bot has Mention Everyone permission
    OR
  • The role being pinged is set as Mentionable in your server’s role settings
If neither condition is met, the alert will still be posted, but the role mention will not appear.

Example alert with a role mention

When role pinging is active, alerts may look like this:
